A travel baseball team for adults started in 1988.
History
This team started life as the SoCal Yankees in 1988. The team went to the 1st. MSBL World Series that year in the 30+ division. The Yankees fielded teams in state and regional tournaments as well as the World Series. Age groups changed over the years and the team won a California state title in the over 40 division. That was in the 1990's. Often in the mid 1990's and early 2000's we entered more than one age group in the World Series. This was usually in 30+ and 40+. Eventually by the 2004 season we concentrated on one team. In 2005 we entered the 48+ age group and won the World Series. That age group was changed to 50+ shortly after. To better show the diversity of where the team was getting its players a poll was conducted to chose a new name. The winner was SoCal Fire. Success followed right away. The team made it to the 50+ finals in 2008. Then it won titles in 2009 and 2010. In 2010 a 55+ team was formed. That team went 3-2-1 in its first year of round robin play. In 2011 it improved to 5-1. In 2012 a perfect 6-0. In 2013 a 60+ division team was added. That team went 3-2-1 in it's first World Series. Besides the World Series the SoCal Fire also participates in a number of regional tournaments each year. In 2014 the team was in Palm Springs, Las Vegas (twice), and Monterey, CA. The team won titles in Las Vegas and Monterey. Also making the playoffs in the other two tournaments. The team appeared in the Woodland-Davis tournament Labor Day weekend for the second time and is looking forward to entering again next year. In 2016 the team has been on the same schedule as 2014 and 2015. In 2015 we added a Father/Son team in the World Series. In 2017 we added a 65+ team.
For 2022 the team has changed names to the Pacific Reds.
Since the beginning of this team the philosophy has not changed. The team is open to all who want to participate. All players regardless of skill level have a part to play in the success of the team. Back in 1988 we started by finding a role for a player based on what he could contribute rather that his backround. Former pros played along side those that hadn't played since high school. Over the years we have showed that you can be successful as a team by playing as a team and not a group of individuals. We have never cut a player to get someone who is supposed to be more talented. We have stuck by the philosophy that started MSBL. Otherwise why would we be playing under the rules we do. Such as free defensive substitution. Seperate offense and defense line-ups. Also batting AT LEAST 10 batters in an opening line up. All these rules were designed to get everyone involved in the game. In addition we treat all players the same. We expect each player to pay their fair share of tournament fees. No special treatment for STAR players. We do try and help those that really want to be with us but circumstances make it difficult.
Look for big changes on this web site in 2024!!!
While page 5 of the site will continue list the swag items that are still available, the other pages will serve a new function. We will try to keep you informed of upcoming tournaments. However, it looks like the Pacific Reds is no more.
This will mean you should look out for a new heading of your emails. (Still working on that. Stay tuned!)
Biggest change is that the site will keep you informed about the new PODCAST that will be staring soon. It will be about people like you still playing ball well after others have given it up.
